What's PADI IDC?
The IDC is the heart of PADI Instructor training. During the course, you'll apply your diving knowledge & skills while learning to use the PADI System of diver education in the classroom & in the water. The IDC consists of 2 sections, the Assistant Instructor and the Open Water Scuba Instructor program, which allows some of tight-scheduled candidates to split the course into 2 blocks of time. Assistant Instructor (AI): 490 $US
Once successfully completing the 4-day AI Program, you are qualified to assist and work with PADI Instructors in various portions of PADI programs. The teaching skills you develop during the AI program allows you to independently conduct several PADI programs, and with further training you may also teach non-diving specialty courses.
Once qualified as (or if you are already) a PADI AI, you do not need to attend the entire IDC but just the OWSI portion to become a PADI instructor.
Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI): 890 $US
PADI OWSI rating is the first PADI Instructor level. During your 5-day OWSI, you review PADI Standard, procedures, philosophy and teaching methods as well as hone your practical teaching ability, watermanship and diving knowledge. After successfully completing a PADI Instructor Examination (IE), you are able to introduce people to scuba diving through various PADI programs and courses. PADI OWSI may conduct the entire range of PADI programs from experience programs up to Divemaster.
Crossover: 890 $US
The Crossover program is offered for instructors with other diver training organizations such as: BSAC (Club Instructor or higher), CMAS (one star Instructor or three star diver), FAUI, IDEA, MDEA, NAUI, PDIC, SSI, SAA (Instructor Grade 2 or higher) or YMCA. (others may also qualify – please contact our course director for verification at thien@gopro-thailand.com).
Prerequisite
To enroll in an IDC (AI and/or OWSI) or Crossover program, an individual must:
- AI/IDC: Be certified as a PADI Divemaster OR hold a leadership level certification with another recreational diver training organization.
- OWSI/Crossover: Be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor OR as a current instructor member in good standing with another recreational diver training organization for at least 6 months.

- Have been a certified diver for at least six months and have completed and logged at least 60 open water scuba dives (as documented in the individual’s log book) and have documentation of experience in deep, night and navigation diving. (To attend an IE, the instructor candidate must have at least 100 logged dives.)
- Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.
